Cove Creek Fire Department consists of both Fire Fighters and First Responders to make up our Membership. Each member has to attend a minimum of 36 hours of training yearly to meet North Carolina State standards. If are a member of both the Firefighters and First Responders, you have to train for a total of 72 Hrs - 36 for each. Our Firefighers meet for training every 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Monday night at 6:00pm.

First Responders meet the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month. We have one business meeting a month, which is on the 4th Monday. Each member is required to attend no less than 6 meetings a year.

The department is run by the Chief, Terry Combs, who has had over 25 years of experience in the fire service, all of which has been at Cove Creek. Under him is Scott Matheson who is the Assistant Chief. He has over 10 years in with Cove Creek. Under Scott is the Captain, Phil Presnell 10+ years, 1st Lt. Steve Hicks 13+ years, & 2nd Lt. Len Dollar 23+ years.

There are also 2 officers for First Responders, Captain Chad Cole, 7 years and 1st Lt. Laramie Combs, 4 years. Each Fire officer is assigned a squad, where he has about 10-12 fireman to train. Each officer is assigned a Monday night which is called a squad night.

We do offer a Junior FireFighter program. You have to be between 16 & 18 years of age, and have a clean driving record. You have to keep a C average in school and stay out of trouble. The juniors do alot for the department. They train with everybody and do almost everything senior firefighters do. They can not drive the Trucks till they are 21 years old (thats what the state makes us do,sorry).

As a member of the fire department, after 20 years of service, you are able to draw a pension through the NC Firemans Association.
